This question indicates one of two scenarios. The first applies to those who fully intended to get a tattoo, booked an appointment, consulted a tattooist, agreed upon a design, got the tattoo, and ended up with one that did not match what they wanted at all. If this is you, we feel your pain. There are some questionable tattoo shops and artists out there. It’s unfortunate that they didn’t take the time to properly grasp what you wanted, nor to show you the progress in a mirror to ensure the design was on track with what you envisioned.

Everyone knows you must wait at least 3 months before swimming after getting a tattoo. It’s required to protect the integrity of the work. But what about when you’re getting a tattoo removed?

Almost everyone understands that you must wait at least three months to openly expose a new tattoo to the big yellow/orange ball in the sky. And even then, a minimum SPF30 is required to keep it covered, not just in the months leading up to it, but for the remainder of one's life if one truly wants to protect the integrity of their body art.

You have a tattoo that you don’t love, but you don’t exactly hate it either. There’s just something about it that you wish were gone. It may be a letter, number, face, flora, fauna, creature, critter, an abstract pattern, or one of innumerable things that could have been integrated as a part of a single design.

It is not uncommon for people to inquire about altering or correcting a tattoo. It is common for script tattoos done by a tattooist who did a good job, but rendered a letter/number in poor quality compared to the rest. It is also a common request for portrait tattoos, where a facial expression doesn’t quite match a person's or pet's persona.

The question that highlights today’s feature is certainly different from the one that tattoo studios normally receive. For the most part, people with existing tattoos generally want to know if the work can be darkened. This is common not only among those who have had tattoos for a long time, but also among newly tattooed individuals. The intensely deep colour that clients see when they first get a tattoo is not what the finished result actually looks like. The ink will usually appear a tiny bit lighter and less vibrant once healed, as the skin has regenerated.
