It wasn’t that long ago, when people with unwanted tattoos were essentially stuck with them, barring brutal surgical methods. Consequently, thousands of people who were tattooed between the 1940s and early 1960s (now in the current “senior” age range) have lived with them to this day. But just because someone is in their advanced years, doesn’t mean that they have to live with the blemish on their personal aesthetic record.
It probably comes as little surprise to find that a significant percentage of military personnel and veterans have tattoos. Research indicates that over a third of active-duty members of the military have tattoos (who will one day be veterans) and that the proportion is even higher among veterans.
Each month, hundreds of local Vancouver, BC area searches occur for “tattoo removal for dark skin” and “tattoo removal for black skin”. The motivation for seeking insight and services specific to skin pigmentation is rooted in concerns about whether removal will be effective and, further, about the potential for scarring and other complications.
